Why Are Hippos So Aggressive?
Hippos are intensely territorial and dominant animals. Male hippos will, as early as seven years old, start to learn and display aggressive shows of behavior. They are well known for opening their mouths wide and showing off their massive tusks and teeth to deter predators or invaders.
Yes, hippos do have a general dislike towards humans. And lions. And hyenas. And pretty much any other wild animal that intrudes on their territory. According to an estimate quoted by the BBC, approximately 500 people lose their lives every year to hippo attacks in Africa.

Can A Turtle Live WITHOUT Its Shell?
Просмотров 3897 часов назад
For turtles and tortoises, their shell is all they need for protection. In fact, they’re completely dependent on it for survival. Most land-dwelling tortoises will sport a big, bone-hard, high-arched shell that offers them protection from weather, as well as predators that want to snag a bite. A tortoise or turtle would feel excruciating pain if their shell gets broken, similar to the pain you’...
Does Gravity 'Push' or 'Pull?'
Просмотров 53116 часов назад
Einstein suggested that objects aren’t pulled by massive objects, but rather pushed down by the space above them. According to General Relativity, matter warps the fabric of not only space but time as well, collectively known as the continuum of space-time. The fabric is like a grid of tightly strung rubber bands; when a massive object pushes and stretches them downward, the deformed rubber ban...
Quantum Observer Effect: Can 'Looking' at Something CHANGE Reality?
Просмотров 315День назад
When a quantum system is observed or measured, its behavior changes. This phenomenon is known as the "observer effect." Specifically, it refers to how particles can exhibit both wave-like and particle-like behavior, depending on whether they are being observed. To demonstrate this phenomenon, the Weizmann Institute built a tiny device, less than one micron in size, that had a barrier with two o...
Why Don't Lakes Just Evaporate or Seep Into the Ground?
Просмотров 33514 дней назад
Surprisingly, despite the sun's heat, lakes don't visibly evaporate like a glass of water. There are two main reasons for this: first, the amount of water present in lakes and large water bodies is huge (at least compared to what you might have in a beaker/tub). Therefore, the process of evaporation is quite slow, which is why you don’t notice the difference in their water levels. Having said t...
What Happens to the EMPTY Space After Organ Transplant?
Просмотров 35014 дней назад
When an organ is removed from the body, the empty space is filled in by encroaching organs around it. The small organ-shaped space would be edged into by the pancreas, stomach and liver. In the case of larger “gaps,” such as the removal of part of the intestine, bodily fluid would temporarily fill the space until connective tissue begins to form. Our bodies are divided into specific cavities, w...
Does WATER Make Grease Fires WORSE?
Просмотров 37621 день назад
Water and oil do not mix (immiscible liquids) because water is polar and grease oil is non-polar. They do not form intermolecular bonds and instead repel each other. There is a separation of oil and water layers. The denser liquid falls to the bottom and the less dense liquid floats over it. Water is denser than oil, so when water is poured onto burning oil, some of it tends to float to the bot...
What Happens If You 'Deep Fry' Ice?
Просмотров 64121 день назад
The ice, upon coming in contact with boiling oil, quickly melts and changes to steam. The large volume of steam that is formed will then rise, carrying some of the oil along with it as smaller droplets, which burst in the air… and voila! Armageddon. The bottom line is to not try to deep fry ice at home. Ever. That said, if it were to accidentally happen, the best thing would be to stay as far a...
Can You LIVE In ANTARCTICA All Year Round?
Просмотров 27221 день назад
Antarctica has no actual natives who call the continent home. The continent's inaccessibility has always been an obstacle. Yet scientists and researchers living in the 80 Antarctic field stations do exactly that, but it is difficult. The temperatures are harsh, as is the day-and-night cycle. There is no greenery, and food is limited to what can be grown indoors. Living in Antarctica for a year ...
How Do Snowflakes 'Get' Their SHAPE?
Просмотров 21528 дней назад
Snowflakes come in a seemingly endless variety of shapes and sizes. Two factors play key roles in determining the shape of a snowflake: temperature and humidity. Kenneth Libbrecht, Professor of Physics at the California Institute of Technology, made some extensive observations regarding snowflakes’ shapes in different atmospheric conditions. He observed that snowflakes formed below -22 degrees ...
Do People Live in The North Pole?
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Месяц назад
The true geographic North Pole is bereft of vegetation. Trees need soil to flourish. As the North Pole is composed of random chunks of ice in close proximity, there is no way that growth can occur. Then there are months of darkness, lasting roughly between October and February, wherein plants wouldn’t be able to survive in the absence of light to carry out photosynthesis for survival. The North...

Why Didn't Titanic Passengers Climb On The ICEBERG?
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
An iceberg is a humongous rock of ice floating on water, but only a small part of it is visible above the surface of the water. Getting onto an iceberg is more challenging than it seems. Icebergs are massive, so it would be daunting to get hundreds of frightened passengers onto the iceberg without any assistance equipment. Moreover, the challenges don’t end there. Once on the iceberg, staying t...
Hair Hanging Explained: How Performers Hang Without Ripping Their Scalps Off
Просмотров 286Месяц назад
Hair hanging is a circus-style trick in which a person is suspended by only their hair and swung around or held up in the air. Originally conceived in China, it is traditionally performed with the hair wound around a ring or a hook, and the performer is then suspended or swung around, often while performing other tricks of the circus trade, such as juggling. The secret to hair hanging is that t...
What is Mukbang and How Has It Become a Viral Sensation Online?

For those not familiar, a mukbang is a live-streaming video involving the host consuming food for an audience. The term originates from the Korean word meokbang, a combination of two other Korean words: meongneun or eating and bangsong or broadcast. A typical mukbang video could involve the individual, also known as a 'mukbanger', cooking and then subsequently consuming food. While some mukbang...

02:48 - Minor correction. The video says, “Unlike some reptiles like snakes, frogs, and lobsters, turtles do not shed their outer layers.” Frogs and lobsters are definitely not reptiles. The sentence was meant to read, “Unlike animals that shed their skin, such as some reptiles such as snakes, amphibians such as frogs, and arthropods such as lobsters, turtles do not shed their outer layers.”

Eustace Conway, the mountain man from Boone NC, drank water directly from his stream his entire life. Just stuck his head right into it. He did catch giardia, I misspelled that probably, but the doctors said it wasn't hurting him because his body had a natural immunity to it. Still made his eye whites a different shade of color. He had to put in a pump for the students who came there to Turtle Island to learn about the natural world. The health department made him because many of those students had really weak immune systems from living indoors in sterile environments. That sort of lifestyle makes you weakened a susceptible to all sorts of diseases and bacterias in every day nature. Expose your kids young to dirt and the woods, and rivers and streams so they develop healthy immune systems ya'll. Don't keep them inside all the time in a sterile environment. It makes them really weak.

Absolutely not. Quantum mechanics is nothing more than a probabilistic mathematical framework based on the misunderstanding and the misinterpretation of the nature of light, and the double-slit experiment. Maybe that's why it is "probabilistic"... The math may be useful for replicating technology and chemical reactions, but it has no bearing on reality itself, because the theory is founded on the fallacy of quantum state superposition.
